I remember the first software company that I worked for. It was really quite depressing.
Now, they were paying me really well. In fact, they were paying me about 50% more than market rates for my skill set.
While I definitely appreciated the great compensation, it felt like I was laying an egg. I know that sounds kind of weird, but that’s the only way I could describe the experience.
Can you imagine being stuck in a concrete box with no windows for 8 hours every given day? Day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year.
As you can probably imagine, it can get old quickly. It definitely does get on your nerves.
Because while you’re looking forward to work and you love what you do, and you definitely love getting your paycheck every two weeks, there’s just something missing. There’s just something that really eats away at your soul. And people can tell.
How? Well, you’re always late when it comes to deadlines. Or the quality of your work isn’t really world standard. Whatever the case may be, people can tell that you’re not exactly performing at your best level.
There’s a lot more you can do. You can end up doing better work. But for some reason or another, you just are not able to do it. Well, maybe it’s your environment.
Because based on my experience, when I quit that job and found my calling as a freelancer just working off Starbucks or some cafe, enjoying the great sunshine and enjoying the great outdoors, my productivity blew up. My work quality skyrocketed, and I was getting paid the same amount of money.
Now, I take full control and ownership of my time. I do whatever work I like, when I want it, and based on my own terms.
Do yourself a big favor, if you are a manager or an owner of a software company, pay close attention to the working environment. As much as possible, get people to work in an area where there’s a lot of glass so they can see some sort of open natural setting.
When they can reconnect with nature, they can get a creative and emotional reboot every single day. This goes a long way in helping unlock the tremendous amount of resourcefulness and imagination people have.
This is precisely the kind of creative boost your company needs to achieve its goals.
One of the best ways you can really enhance any kind of outdoor scene, regardless of what it looks like and regardless of the space you have in front of you, is by simply installing quality composite decking.
That’s all you need to do. You just need to go to a quality composite decking shop, pick out the right model, it’s all modular so you can basically mix and match, assemble it, and you call it a day.
It’s pretty straightforward, it’s basic, it doesn’t really cost you all that much money, but believe me, it can have a tremendous impact on the creativity, or at least the mindset, of the people working for you.
